As a sculptor, I started making furniture since 1992.
When I make tables, chairs, etc ... I try to transmit the same sensations of form, movement, rhythm and touch that we find in sculpture.
I think good furniture must be easy to use, durable, easy to repair, and not expensive. In addition, I wanted to convey the charm of sculpture art into furniture.
My goal is to connect the shape of my furniture to that of man to make their use easier and pleasant.
That is how Ryokobo ( the good studio furniture in Japanese ) was born.
The main wood species used are teak, mahogany and walnut, which are also the best three in the world.
Ryokobo studio imagine the object from raw wood and supervise its design until the final stage. Rare trees are precious, and so are worked to achieve perfection.
The varnishes used are based on natural oils so as not to alter the color of the wood.
Each tree as each man is unique, therefore we use different species so that everyone can find a piece of furniture reflecting his own image. Each piece of furniture is made from materials selected according to the customer. We can also make a piece according to your desired material, size, shape and budget.
Ryokobo makes everything possible to use the best materials and to be as careful as possible.
Ryokobo’s workshop is in Yatsugatake, (150 km west fromTokyo), a relaxing place in the nature near mount Fuji. Ryokobo exhibits many works in two galleries attached to the workshop. One adjoining to the workshop present monumental pieces, sculptures, original sketch and paints.
